Quirk Weekend Music Mix

by Jason Warner

2012/08/10

Why hello there!

It’s that special time of the week: time for the Quirk Weekend Music Mix, featuring the coolest (or most unusual) tracks currently being passed around the Music@quirk mailing list!

Be sure to tune into the much-loved 2Oceansvibe Radio. They’ll be featuring the Quirk Weekend Music Mix on The Premier Show with Seth Rotherham & Bruce Good between 10am and 1pm on Fridays. You can catch the audio stream over at 2Oceanvibe’s website.
But enough blabbering, bru! Let the music play.

Grizzly Bear - Yet Again

Shared by Ben Brouckaert

Indie folk band Grizzly Bear make their second appearance in a row. Listen to this track off their upcoming Shields. It’s just great.

Paul Banks - The Base

Shared by Ltisch Amos

Paul Banks (of Interpol fame) is back with his second solo album, but this time, it’s under his own name. Called Banks, he recorded it with Interpol producer Peter Katis, and the result is pretty awesome - beautiful production, solid song structure, and of course, excellent vocals.

PSY – Gangnam Style

Shared by Ben Steenhuisen

Are you ready to have your mind blown into a million tiny pieces? No? Tough. Check out this truly absurd track by a Korean dude by the name of PSY. The YouTube video punts it as “a song characterised by its strongly addictive beats and lyrics, thus certain to penetrate the foundations of modern philosophy.” Err… Okay.

The Fresh & Onlys - Presence Of Mind

Shared by Ben Brouckaert

San Franciscan garage rock/indie newcomers, The Fresh & Onlys haven’t been around too long (suppose the word, newcomers might have given that away), but boy, do they release new music often. Listen to their latest track called Presence of Mind. It’s jam-packed with memorable lines, chunky bass and saccharine melodies.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s short and sweet Quirk Weekend Music Mix. Because we’re all about sharing, we’d like to know what you are listening to. So go ahead, make our day.
