Quirk Weekend Music Mix

by Jason Warner

2012/08/24

Boy, oh boy, does time speed by.

Just last Friday we were spoiling the ‘interwebs’ with a Quirk Weekend Music Mix - featuring the coolest (or most unusual) tracks being passed around the Music@quirk mailing list. And now, lo and behold, we’re back with yet another jam-packed post.

Be sure to tune into the much-loved 2Oceansvibe radio.  They’ll be featuring the Quirk Weekend Music Mix on The Premier Show with Seth Rotherham & Bruce Good, between 10am and 1pm on Fridays. You can catch the audio stream over at 2Oceanvibe’s website.

But let’s get on with it. In the famous words of many eighties one-hit-wonders: let the music play!

Japandroids - The House That Heaven Built

Shared by Daniel Neville

At Quirk we’re suckers for a good ol’ anthemic rock track, and happily, the Canadian duo, Japandroids, deliver. Their video is punted as a ‘sequence of touring, partying, and shenanigans’ and, well, that actually pretty much sums it up.

Minus the Bear - Diamond Lightning

Shared by Gareth le Grange

Seattle indie legends, Minus the Bear, are back with another great track, this time off of their upcoming fifth album, Infinitely Overhead. Featuring more aggressive guitar than some of their other efforts, this album is sure to be well received by music critics.

Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi - Two Against One (feat. Jack White)

Shared by Katharina Scholtz

Last year Danger Mouse and Italian composer, Daniele Luppi, released the spaghetti western-influenced album-slash-project, Rome, which featured a host of incredibly talented guest singers. Listen to the rather darkly trippy track Two Against One, featuring arguably one of the most talented musicians alive today, the one and only Jack White.

Freddie King - Ain`t No Sunshine When She`s Gone

Shared by Katharina Scholtz

Let’s class it up for a moment with Freddie King and his team of bad asses, as they deliver one of the most evocative, downright sexy versions of the Bill Withers classic. Keep your eyes peeled for some epic bursts of shredding.

BEAST – Man In Between

Shared by Daniel Neville

South African super-group BEAST, have caused quite the stir in the local scene with what seems like minimal effort. Comprised of Louis Nel and Rian Zietsman from Taxi Violence, Sasha Righini from The Plastics and fronted by Lark's incredibly talented Inge Beckman, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Check out this ‘clip made with a shitty phone’, which actually has a certain charm to it (lens flare and all).

We hope you enjoyed this week’s Quirk Weekend Music Mix. As always, we’d like to know what you are listening to. So please share.
