The Old Spice team are back with another fantastic contribution. Officially in the stellar realm of ‘viral’, this advertisement features the somewhat genius new concept of video interactivity, in a campaign to promote a new scent, ‘Danger Zone’.
In the ad titled quite provocatively as ‘Muscle Music’, Terry Crews, onscreen action man and the face of the campaign, composes ‘music’ by flexing his famous collection of muscles, from legs, up to arms.
Each muscle is attached to numerous musical instruments via electrodes that sense the flexing of that muscle, and trigger a mechanism that strums, blows or bangs. Included among the instruments are various drums, a saxophone, guitar and more. Let me tell you, the video is hilarious from beginning to the end, and mostly because Terry adds to the ruckus with trademark shouts and barks – a new form of vocalisation, it seems.
The interactivity comes at the end where the user can then create their own sounds, by pressing certain hot-key combinations on their keyboard. Each key is linked to one of Terry’s colossal muscles, where that muscle creates a unique ‘beat’. The user is able to record their tune, upload the video to Vimeo and share that video across various social media platforms.

‘Muscle Music’ was released on the 23rd of August and has since gone on to garner an unbelievable 4,389,549 views, in just 1 week. Additionally, the video holds a tally of 10,184 Likes, 343 positive comments and no Dislikes. It seems then that the folks at Old Spice have, yet again, created an unforgettable online contribution not soon to be forgotten.
