Viral Video: Facebook - It's Like A Chair?

by Nash Sprenger

Coupled with the announcement at reaching the 1 billion user mark, Facebook have, in addition, released their first ever advertisement.

This should be good, you may say. They have the resources to garner big advertising minds. They’ve no doubt commissioned a team that’s brought innovation in idea, polish of concept, and no doubt hired a creative force that’s produced copy of such profound genius, my mind is sure to be blown.

Well, no. First and foremost, what we do have is the notion of Facebook being like…a chair. It’s not hard to see what the world’s largest Social Media platform is trying to get at with this, their fledgling attempt at a TVC, but the execution comes up very short. What we do get is a strange rant about chairs, doorbells, bridges, airplanes and the universe. It’s an offering that makes me personally feel I’ve lost my mind, with its strange, ‘spacey’ copy, and disjointed and bizarre concept.

The video was published on YouTube on the 4th of October and has already tallied a strong viewership of 234,490. The rating system has unfortunately been disabled on the YouTube post, but I would hazard a guess that the Dislikes may take it on this one.
