Quirk Weekend Music Mix

by Jason Warner

2012/10/19

Oh Friday, you sweet, kind muse!

Yes, it’s time for another epic Quirk Weekend Music Mix. Take some time out of the rat race to listen to a few choice tracks being sent around the different QuirkStations, this past week.

And be sure to tune into the much-loved 2Oceansvibe Radio. They’ll be featuring the Quirk Weekend Music Mix on The Premier Show with Seth Rotherham & Bruce Good between 10am and 1pm on Fridays. You can catch the audio stream over at 2Oceanvibe’s website.

But that’s enough yapping for one day. We’ve got a great selection of chilled out tracks to burn through.

Toro y Moi - So Many Details

Shared by Ben Brouckaert

American musician Chazwick Bundick, better known as Toro y Moi, is adept at making accessible experimental music, most likely due to the chilled-out pop factor. Listen to this great track. It’ll help you ease into your weekend.

Vampire Weekend - I'm Going Down (Bruce Springsteen cover)

Shared by Gareth le Grange

Flash-forward past the Juno buzz and Vampire Weekend are still releasing great tracks (even if they are covers). Listen to the guys cover The Boss:

Maxence Cyrin - Where Is My Mind (The Pixies piano cover)

Shared by Matt Wilkinson

Let’s slow it down just a bit more before our last track. French pianist Maxence Cyrin performs an instrumental cover of the infinitely famous Pixies classic, Where Is My Mind… and boy is it pretty.

Die Antwoord – Fatty Boom Boom

Shared by Just About Every Saffa Ever

Just when you thought you were safe hiding behind today’s chilled out tracks. South African zef rappers, Die Antwoord, have predictably caused yet another stir with their latest music video. This time around, we’re treated to blackface (ooh, shocking!), wild animals and, oh yeah, Lady Gaga visiting a Jozi gynae. Right…

We hope you enjoyed this week’s Quirk Weekend Music Mix. Because we’re all about sharing, we’d like to know what you are listening to. So go ahead, make our day.
