The QuirkStars hit Mzoli's

by Katharina Scholtz

On Friday I was exposed to my first ever office Christmas party and I believe the experience may leave me spoiled for future experiences. Tim Shier organised a unique event which, cloaked in secrecy up till the last minute, was a great introduction to the unconventional and special culture at Quirk.

At about 4pm all the animate contents of the office cuddled onto a smallish bus and headed off through the traffic to Mzoli’s in Gugulethu.  A bus full of happy QuirkStars moving through the traffic (at full volume as always) must have been something to see. When we reached Mzoli’s we were greeted by the man himself, a table was set up, and despite initially feeling like a bunch of tourists, everyone quickly settled into the local Mzoli’s spirit. If you’ve never been there, I suggest you go - it’s a Capetonian experience not to be missed. Entire loaves of bread were dropped on the table, they apparently double as serviettes as well, and the food was delicious and plentiful (I don’t think I’ve ever seen that much meat in one place).

After the party in Gug’s we headed back to the office, where the strong stayed late and the tired didn’t last very long (I believe the party continued at Mercury long after I had faded). It was a well organised and great celebration, and just makes me curious to see what will happen next year!

Yes, go check out the photos on Facebook. The one of Carlos pulling the "rabid monkey from Outbreak" face is not to be missed.

Thanks for the Party guys. I have never needed a drink so much in my life! I'm surprised we never got a shot of that meat platter?

"Rabid monkey from Outbreak?" Damn, and my parents always told me I looked like Jack the monkey from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Strange how you link to the Mzoli's wikipedia page, that said page caused quite a stir when Jimmy initially created it. It even made headlines in the LA Times read more here www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-ca-webscout30sep30,0,344107.story?coll=la-home-center
