This week not only marked the 10th anniversary of blogging but also the first time a blogger has been accredited with covering a major political event in South Africa. In the ten years since John Barger coined the term “weblog”, blogging has become recognised as one of the cheapest, fastest and most versatile publishing tools around today.
It has also brought with it an unprecedented interaction between businesses and their customers. A business without a website is a business that does not exist, but now without making use of the blogosphere businesses might find themselves heading in the same direction.
In fact one could almost say that blogs have come to dominate the net to a certain extent. According to Technorati, there are more than 100 million active blogs, which represents a massive rate of growth over the last few years. Do we see this letting up? Not likely.
As an individual who until recently had limited exposure to the blogosphere or the plethora of information and ideas spewed with personal commentary as I like to think of it, I have found myself quickly addicted to a variety of blogs that I sift through almost every morning on my feed reader.
The personal connection and interaction that you are afforded while being highly informed is quite amazing. Who needs to read a newspaper in the morning anymore? It's all right there in my feeds, and a whole lot funnier. Who knows where we'll find ourselves in 10 years from now...

Great post!
I agree completely, taking the SEO effect on its own, a blog is an incredibly justified financial and time investment.
I will have to discuss this in a blog post in the future... (as soon as I find a scrap of time).
Anybody have any recent stats of how quickly the blogosphere is growing? If my memory serves me correctly the most recent stat I got was 100 000 a day but I may be wrong.
