eMarketing over Breakfast - Search Engine Marketing

by Lyndi Lawson

Yesterday saw the second instalment of the eMarketing Over Breakfast lectures in Cape Town. Hosted in the Veranda Restaurant of the Metropole Hotel, it was a morning filled with gastronomic delights as well as being a feast for the mind.

The focus was largely on Search Engine Marketing and the various ins and outs of both paid and organic search. Stokes was on top form and in between his sips of water and his (attempts at) witty remarks, he proved, once again, that there are few people who know quite so much as he does about the eMarketing game.

The room was packed to capacity, and there were some big names present. Indeed, with so many companies and individuals eager to absorb some of the Rob’s wisdom, there is promise of instalment three - Affiliate Marketing and Banner Advertising - necessitating a bigger venue. Exceptionally well attended, Quirk hosted a large Ogilvy contingent as well as some representatives from the Jupiter Drawing Room, the Democratic Alliance, 24.com, Investec, Cambridge University Press (to name but a few) and online marketing guru celebrities like Eric Edelstein, as well as some of Quirk’s most valued clients including Amazing Vouchers and getclosure.

The attendees not only left with a healthy respect for the complexity of managing an online marketing campaign and some of the foundation knowledge necessary to better understand SEO and how to implement and effective strategy - they also got a comprehensive resource pack, a special Quirk scribble pad (much in demand in office circles) and a plastic pen that was slightly less crappy than the last one. The delegates also received a substantial AdWords voucher from our good friends at Google.

eMarketing over Breakfast has proved a resounding success in Cape Town, Jo’burg and London both as a concept and in its implementation. With so few experts in this ever shifting sphere of marketing, companies lacking in this area need to tap into resources where they are available to avoid falling behind.
