Rushmore Drive for Black Community

by Damian Burke

Black Web Enterprises Inc. have made a bold leap into the world of Search by launching Rushmore Drive, an engine for the African American community. "The first-of-its-kind search engine built especially for OUR community" went live yesterday after much hard work and market research.

At the risk of sharing the same fate as a recently defunct David Bullard, I didn't understand the need for the engine - but after a brief test of the site it became evident that Rushmore Drive has a professional focus, and aims to promote a noble community spirit.

Intrigued, I created an account (and had to fabricate yet another American Zip Code) which was extremely quick and straightforward. During registration, users are invited to select their professional, religious and Greek (fraternity) affiliations in an effort to create a link between "people who share the same faith, same fraternity or sorority, and who belong to some of the same professional groups that you do".

The new search engine uses the ASK.com algorithm, and provides concise results featuring a small taste of each search category including snippets of news stories, images, videos and suggested and related results, while users are able to rate the results to better the service.

Another notable feature is the Job Network, which provides a vast resource of potential employers and employees. As Johnny Taylor, President of Black Web Enterprises put it, “Rushmore Drive is not in competition with other media outlets”, but instead provides a platform for like minded people.

My only criticism is that the Rushmore Drive tagline, "Discover more here", should be "Redefine your discovery".
