That's correct folks; you are now able to use Google News to search for quotes by certain individuals. This capability can be, and has been likened to that of a real-time Bartlett's.
How does this work? Well basically Google pulls quotes out of articles as they are indexed and then arranges them by person. So when you search for an individual and Google News has a relevant quote that is fairly recent, you will find it presented to you in a box at the top of your search results (like below).
You are then able to click through to more quotes by this individual and even search per topic within these quotes. A little tension here me thinks..?
This seems to be just one more thing that Google has done to improve the value to users - giving them what they want when they are searching the news.
“Be it poetry or public speech, words matter.” said software engineers Jack Hebert, Akash Nanavati and Natasha Mohanty on the Google News Blog.
I couldn't agree more and this is one of the reasons I love this new feature and can only see it going from strength to strength. It is also interesting to note that this addition comes so soon after Microsoft released a competitor to Google News in the form of the new Live Search News.
Personally I don't think there is any comparison between the two, although I do really like the top news videos function on Live Search News. The simplicity of the layout adds to readability, but it still falls short in my eyes.
Now if we could just get statements made by wives and girlfriends indexed, us guys might be able to win an argument once in a while...
