The Value of Links

by Rob Stokes

Thanks to Barry at Search Engine Roundtable for pointing out this thread about the value of renting links and what people are currently paying for them. Pretty interesting stuff.

Looks like its averaging out at about $100 - $200/month but its still early days with only a few punters getting in on the action. That’s a whole lotta dollars for a link. But…

I liked Ian McAnerin’s comments: Pay what its worth and make sure you know how to work that out. If the link doesn’t perform give it the chop, if it works like a charm… buy more. Spend a million if it will bring you two.

Link building is critical yes but there are many ways to skin a cat, all of which cost either money or time. I often find that time and a bit of savvy provide for a better long term link than just throwing money at the problem.
