In With the New: Web Design Trends 2008

by Grant McLachlan

When we hear the phrase Web 2.0, many of us immediately think of glossy buttons, reflections, big fonts, badges and rounded corners. While these are still being used in many of the latest designs, this year has also brought a new, more creative style of design to the Web.

Grungy pencil drawings, scripty fonts, wood backgrounds, post-it notes, torn edges, dirty stains and paper backgrounds are just a few of the latest trends that have emerged in 2008. In my opinion these new styles bring a more personal feel and character to Web Design.

I have picked out a few sites that I think are good examples of the latest trends. Also, check out the very trendy Keedo.co.za site, which was designed by our very own Frodo (Gavin) after he returned from his adventures in Mordor.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. I'll let the designs speak for themselves. Enjoy!

Thanks for the comments guys.

Thanks for the links Lester, I really enjoyed that slideshow.

"Web2.0 is a concept...
...not a design aesthetic"

I couldn't agree more, designers need to become more pro active in adding their own originality.
