Karmen Flemming from Amazing Vouchers passed on these links this morning, basically two websites that look exactly the same. She came across them while looking for hosting for her dad's website.
We can't be certain, but suspect the one site has just been copied. Even if they were templates - it's a tricky one to weigh up. Does a free and usable template outweigh the benefits of originality and differentiation?
We'd love to know what you think.
Update (25/11/2008): It seems Gridhost have a new website...
Crazy Egg are a pretty reputable company doing some kick ass things with heat maps etc, whereas 'ol Gridhost with its typo's and grammer errors, I wouldn't even poke them with a stick!
So I bet its more of Gridhost stealing than these 2 companies using the same free web template.
(Hopefully this comments passes Quirk's crap filer *cough* 503 error *cough* @Robstokes ;) )

@Mike Thanks for your comment! When there is no other option templates do seem to be a good call.. but larger and growing brands couldn't get away with this.
@JBagley It does look like they copied the site. Not cool.

It always blows my mind when I see things like this. People really do have balls of steel to try and get away with something like this.
After having a closer look and going through some of Crazy Egg's products, I'm pretty damn sure that this is not a free template. The same design technique/look and feel follows through.
Nice try Gridhost!

Hey Kat,
I'm a huge fan of creative and original websites, but it often comes down to money and skills...
In varsity my budget was more focused on beer than on marketing spend.
So I used some free templates, tweaked the css, applied seo, added new images and got cheap hosting... some of them turned out to be extremely profitable with an outlay of next to nothing.
The templates were also a winner since I'm a marketer, not a coder.
