So Dave Pasternack (president and co-founder of Did-it.com) has been saying a few controversial things about SEO over the past few months, the “SEO isn’t rocket science" statement is what really raised a few hackles.
Now as far as I know, Dave started Did-it with Kevin Lee as an SEO agency so I don’t really see how he has a leg to stand on. Of course many are saying that he’s merely link baiting and if that’s the case it has certainly worked. The SEO industry has been up in arms over his comments and of course the links have been flying around.
However this time he may have gone too far. Yesterday Threadwatch announced a new SEO competition: the site ranked number 1 on Google for the phrase “Dave Pasternack” on 1 March 2007 gets $1000. This means that all Dave’s decent (reputation building) rankings are going to get smashed out of the top 10 by a bunch of crazed search engine junkies seeking retribution for his damming remarks.
Some say one of the keys to successful link baiting is to be controversial but as your online reputation is often based around what Google says about you, this approach could come back and bite you in the ass!

Brilliant, although I agree. There is a huge difference between SEM/SEO and rocket science.
