The Value of Stormhoek?

by Rob Stokes

I received my Stormhoek Sauvignon Blanc a few days ago and fair’s fair, I gotta blog about it. (At least something to get another post of out me… I’m a pretty useless blogger as you may have noticed)

If I were to rate the wine on the typical South African 20 point scoring system (3 for colour, 7 for nose and 10 for palate) if would give it a 2, 4, and 8 giving it a total score of 14. Pretty average.

That said it really isn’t your typical wine and I don’t think this scale does it justice. As the marketing shtick goes it certainly is very crisp and fresh and I found subtle citrus undertones. I think drunk fresh it’s a tasty wine for a good quaffing.

But I have to say its worth depends largely on its price. I’m not sure what it costs but I would pay £6 max for it here in the UK and maybe R40 in SA. If its cheaper then it’s a great wine, above that I start doubting.

But that’s just me, the value of my wine is a factor of quality versus price. I’d gladly pay double what Beyerskloof normally charge for their run of the mill Pinotage.

There you have my honest opinion.

Hugh if you read this, great marketing idea and thanks for the wine.
