QuirkStation Update

by Sarah Manners

The QuirkStation has been a hive of activity for the last few weeks; we’ve got work coming in left, right and center. Getting in earlier and leaving later has become par for the course, so it is with great relief that I say “Happy Friday” and "Thank god afternoon drinks have arrived"!

There’s quite a bit on the go at the moment so I thought I’d use today’s post as a general update.

RSS to Email
Our plan for RSS to email has been in the pipeline for some time and we’re happy to say that it went live today (thanks Soph). Why we did it… well not everyone is a huge fan of RSS readers and some aren’t too sure what RSS even is. As I wrote that I could almost hear Rob gasping for air like someone had just kicked him in the nuts (unfortunately not everyone has the same deep and meaningful relationship with their reader that you do Rob). If you’d like to keep up to date with the happenings on GottaQuirk, but couldn’t be asked to constantly check your reader this is for you. Sign up and get the posts delivered straight to your inbox as soon as they go live!

SA Awards Design Blog-off
As far as the logo competition for the unofficial SA Blog Awards logo goes – things are heating up. So far we have 22 entries – check them out here.
Looks like there are a few people who are seriously coveting that Apple TV! The magnanimous S.mith has volunteered to contribute to the prize, now not only will you win the Apple TV but this gorgeous Yahoo! click pen as well.

Now that’s incentive if I’ve ever seen it (kinda makes me consider entering).
Entries close on the 28th of Feb so make sure you get them to me before close of day. I will be featuring all submissions on the 1st, so make sure you comment and vote for your favourite! The final decision is up to the judges but they have good taste so you’re all in safe hands.

QuirkStars… (and the moaning begins) I have only received designs from Gavin, what about the rest of you? Especially those of you who had a million and one things to say about the first design (and by that I mean Andrew).

WebPR† Conference
So after months of planning the WebPR† conference is almost upon us. We kick off in Cape Town on Monday 26 February 2007 at the BMW Pavilion, and move on to Johannesburg where Rob and Sally will be presenting at the Indaba Hotel on 2 March 2007. Keeping an eye on what other bloggers have had to say about the conference has been (mmm how to put this without getting fired…) interesting. I will be posting on the conference next week and I hope to post that it was far more enlightening than standing in front of the mirror, talking and then applauding afterwards would have been;-) In fact I can damn near guarantee that it will be as we don’t applaud mediocrity either!
If you are attending either of the events make sure you check out the wiki and have a squizz at who else will be attending. See you all there!

Geeking it Up @ Relish!
The Geek, oops 27Dinner is also on the cards for next week (busy, busy). As always there will be several enlightened beings speaking. This month the names include including Graham Knox, Guy Lundy and Verity (Gavin is very excited about this). We have arranged for the speakers to be filmed so if you can’t make it at least you won’t be out of the loop. On that note Relish can only accommodate 80 people so if you’ve put your name down and won’t be going make sure that you take your name off to make space for some one else.

Have a great weekend beautiful people
xxx

I'm happy to see that the criticism can be taken flat on the chin @ quirk, this is good. However, I think you guys should put your specs back on and you will see that I was referring to the manner in which she was being presented.

Me thinks the way she is being presented is not too make appear too tech-savy/jeeky cos thatd just scare some people away. How do you like your coffee Stefano?

Posted by rafiq on 2007/02/25

Strong, without any milk to dilute it. I like it as is. As it is intended to be.
