Happy Days, the muti poll is live!
After Stii’s recent post - we’ve decided to accept Neville Newey’s proposal to get a poll up on muti for the blog logo designs, as it had worked so well for them.
So… it’s up and you can get voting now! You can vote until the end of this week and the winner will be announced on Monday. After a few days we’ll be removing the logos with the least votes so if you like a particular design vote for it right away.
You may also notice that the numbering is a little off kilt (I must have been totally brain dead on Thursday when I posted the original post because I seem to have missed a few numbers – perhaps I just can’t count). We decided to keep the numbering exactly the same to avoid any confusion.
What are you still doing here? Go and Vote NOW!
Good luck designers!
Looking at stats, (as I do all day) as well as the samples, the fact that one logo has so many votes and others of equal, if not better, design standard, have none... I would have to agree. The chances of this being an 'honest' voting process look to be in the region of about 12% based on the number of overall votes and their distribution. The unknown/variable factor here is people's (poor?) taste in design. A competition such as this, with a high-value item up for grabs should be audited. Good luck to the honest souls :(

Ai - we thought that this would actually be quite a fair way to go about choosing a winner. You can only vote once and voting is open to everyone... as far as the stats go - I'm no actuary (some even say that I am just a mere typist) but I reckon that this is as fair as it gets, perhaps I’m wrong… But hey – the poll hasn’t even been up for 24 hours yet so give it a chance. The levels of negativity over the past month have begun to start sucking little pieces of my soul away, let’s all play nice and just vote for our fav designs and hope that that someone deserving wins. xxx

I dont think there is any cheating going on. but I do think the 4 judges was a better idea, but i am sure at the end of the day the sa blog awards will have a superb logo.

Smith: If you are not required to log in how would you prevent people from just sitting on the refresh key and revoting for the same design? You cannot use ip address as many people in office and home environments share the same ip address if not the same computer. Of course this does not prevent someone from registering twice but there is no current technology available that can prevent that on the internet.

Hey Neville, I was going to ask you exactly that. Registration is so easy on Muti, which is great, but for a competition poll it is too easy, and too open for abuse. Can you not require an email address per registration, then send a confirmation email to the user, with a confirmation link in it. Then the user is locked to one muti account per email address. The SA Blog Awards Logo Competition is definitely being cheated by some. It is very interesting how 30 votes are cast for one logo within the space of an hour...

Hi Mark, I've purposely kept the registration process for Muti very low-barrier. I can see how this might be gamed in a popularity poll though. What you're suggesting makes a lot of sense, and there might be something we can do tied to email addresses going forward for future polling. I'm going to be talking to Sarah at Quirk to see what we can do about this particular poll. I'm sure they'll update everyone once a decision has been made. In the meantime, shoot out emails to all your friends to get them voting for yours!

As always thanks for the quick reply Neville. I think I'll leave it up to the blogosphere to decide on a winner :)

mmm - the voting on certain designs does look a little suspicious... Neville - I look forward to chatting to you tomorrow. I hope we can resolve this as fairly as possible. It's that or resorting to option 2 (packing my bags and heading towards the nearest nut house). In the meantime vote for your fav design not the one the group email tells you to - please... my sanity is at stake here.
