Howdy folks.
Welcome to my first post on the infamous GottaQuirk. I have been reading this blog for some time now, so it’s going to be quite surreal to see my words on its hallowed pages. I thought I’d kick off with this video Rob sent me. The idea is really simple, very funny and definitely viral.
As a poker player I thought this video was hilarious!
One thing it didn't do though, was make want to visit the site, in fact as I write this I can't even remember what the brand was...

Hey Brad
Thanks for the friendly welcome and the '2 cents'. I think that Rob raises a good point - to a poker fan (straight or gay), this is damn funny. I sent it on to all my card playing mates, who loved it. I am confident that they'll send it on, starting the viral chain.
I agree whole heartedly that a major reason any video might go viral is humour, and I think this has got it in spades (excuse the bad pun).
Are you poker player Sir? Maybe its only laugh out loud funny to that target audience?
What do the rest of you out there think? Funny / Not funny? Would you / have you sent it on?
I think both Rob and Brad are spot on that the brand linkage is poor - they should have worked in some drive to site mechanism.
Thanks for thoughts guys - stoked to have caused a bit of a debate with my first post!

I also didn't see the brand, but I sent it to all my gay friends and my poker buddies. :-)

Hmm...
I don't see it.
First, I agree about the "hallowed pages" of the Quirk blog.
Been a reader for a long time myself.
So lets just say "Welcome Nic"!!
Second, video is the thing, no doubt.
But I don't see the "viral" side to this one.
Viral indicates that it will get passed around because of appeal. And I can't se this one appealing to anyone except maybe a small part of the gay community. Humor is the most common viral event used. This seems to try revenge or lashing out. (out of the closet? LOL)
Anyway, my point...
For a video to be viral, it must have a point.
Even if it's just to make one laugh.
This video will quickly get burried in utube's already massive, and quickly growing database. Because even a gay person with revenge issues can see better examples of what he/she needs.
A video is better suited to become viral when it leaves you feeling that "I gotta show this to...", and it didn't. It just left a question of "that's it?" in mind.
It didn't even make me curious about the web site.
My 2 cent ;-)
Welcome again!!
Brad.
