SA Rugby Website Wins Award, but doesn't raise bar

by Damian Burke

The SA Rugby website recently won the Marketing Mix Content Champions Award for 2007 in the category of Best Website.
The website was awarded for its focus on content, something that was a bit of a hot topic in the QuirkStation last week.

Apart from the obvious News/Fixtures/Results/Player Stats sections, the website contains forums, a blog, live scoring and a member’s area. Not necessarily pushing the envelope in my opinion.
Although, one feature I do find quite novel (until everyone starts doing it at least) is the SARugby Facebook application, which supplies news and information straight to your Facebook account.

I’ve been focusing my thinking on content a considerable amount lately, and on how to produce ever-relevant and interesting copy. The SA Rugby site might have award winning content in terms of full coverage, but I’m not sure if I’d consider it record-breaking.

Here’s to 2008!

Hi guys

Came across your thoughts this morning regarding our site, SARugby.com.

To be honest, we're aware that our look 'n feel has aged somewhat and have invested quite heavily in a new design that will be launched next week.

I'd be very grateful if you could give us some constructive feedback on the new look when it goes live.

Hey David,

Being a regular reader of keo.co.za I think there is 2 main things your site is missing currently

1) Ease of finding news - the homepage is a bit cluttered
2) Online community - I think the main reason people visit keo.co.za is for the comments, I sometimes find myself spending more times reading the comments that the actual article.

Can't wait to see the new design.
